I will post here all my learning and information about making blogs. If you add some comments, then this blog will have all of our experiences together, including some new ones from your side. I want this blog to be a ‘gathering-source’ of comments and public posts, along with your learning, knowledge or superstitions (that you may have about blogging) on blogging. Then it will be more interesting!
So, enjoy with me, my co-autor Andy and everyone who want to improve this blog!

Video: Yahoo! scores in search battle

Aug 15 2007 - Yahoo wins a battle in the search engine war with Google.Yahoo users are more satisfied than Google users, according to the latest University of Michigan American Consumer Satisfaction Index. But Google still has the highest market share and the highest revenues per search.

Yahoo! SEO

Yahoo! is the second biggest of the three major engines. The algorithm is based on that of Inktomi* which Yahoo! purchased back in 2002 as part of their plan to stop serving Google results to search queries.
On no other engine is site structure more important than on Yahoo! The site structure is very important. The site structure determines the order in which your page content gets seen by the search engines. Content that occurs higher up in the code of your page is given a higher weight than content lower down in the code. Besides, a properly structured site will be lower in code through the use of CSS or reduced or eliminated table use. The reduction in code will push the content higher up the page and it will be given more weight.
Like Google and MSN having a solid backlink count from relevant sites using good anchor text practices is a major factor on Yahoo! for any reasonably competitive phrase. When it comes to calculating backlinks Yahoo! is far more similar to Google than MSN.

The main aspects of backlink include:

1. Quality of site - like Google has attempted to do in the past with PageRank and is learning to do with TrustRank but PageRank is a Google calculation, not Yahoo! It can be used as a quasi-benchmark however when there is determining a link which is a quality link on Yahoo! (a site that is ranking high on Yahoo! With the same or related phrases and does the link come from a trusted domain, how old is that domain, with solid number of backlinks and how many there is non-reciprocal links)

2. Position of link - like all the major engines, the position of your link on the page is important. A link at or near the bottom of the page is less valuable than a link nearer to the top. Also, if your link is on a page with other links, the effect that link will have on your rankings decreases respective to the number of links on the linking page.

3. Anchor text - the text used to link to your site will help reinforce that the keywords in that anchor text are associated with your site/page. Also, if that anchor text in the midsnest of the content it will hold greater weight than if that anchor text is in a directory-style format above a description (you should to use always this same description)

4. Non-reciprocal links - reciprocal links are certainly still valuable on Yahoo! however it is important to supplement these links with non-reciprocal links in the form of directory listings and other one-way links.

New sites and links are not given the same weight as sites and links that have been around for a while. So the bane of new websites is the aging delay. The aging delay on sites has been extended over the past couple years however it isn't as adduce as that meted out by Google. The combination of these delays can make it very difficult for new sites to rank for competitive phrases inside of circa 10 months.

More informations you can find on DigitalPoint's Yahoo! Forum and Yahoo! Press Room

* Inktomi Corporation was a California company that provided software for Internet Service Providers, which was founded in 1996 by UC Berkeley professor Eric Brewer and graduate student Paul Gauthier. The company was initially founded based on the real-world success of the search engine they developed at the university.

Turning Your Blog Into A Source Of Income

Online journaling - also known as "blogging" - has rapidly evolved from a personal hobby into a powerful tool for Internet entrepreneurs. According to Jim Kukral, creator of http://BlogKits.com, you can monetize a blog in several ways. "For instance, you might build a stand-alone blog and sell ad space to targeted businesses," suggests Kukral. "Or you could put up a blog on your web site to drive more traffic and keep in touch with your customer base."

Stand-Alone Blogs How can you create an effective stand-alone blog? Start by choosing a subject you're passionate about. If you try writing about a topic you're not truly interested in, your lack of enthusiasm will show through in the results, and you probably won't be consistent with your blogging efforts.

Once you get going, there numerous tools you can use to generate revenue from your e-musings:

*Google AdSense - This contextual system instantly delivers ads to your blog that relate to your topic. Every time one of your readers clicks on an ad, you get paid. And Google has a built-in function that lets you block ads from disreputable sources, so you can protect your name and brand.

*Quigo - Similar to AdSense, Quigo pairs your blog with relevant paid ads. Their system also allows you to see where your ads are being placed.

*AdBrite and BlogAds - Both are marketplaces where you can list space on your blog, for X dollars per month. Businesses can come in, look at your blog stats, and choose to rent an ad spot.

*BlogKits - Again, your blog is matched to ads with a similar target audience. But with this program, you receive a sales percentage each time one of your readers clicks through an ad and makes a purchase. This per-action model is ideal for bloggers with only a handful of traffic. You'll see fewer actions than clicks, but the higher commissions will add up much faster.

Business Blogs

Unlike with a stand-alone blog, your goal in creating a blog for your web site is to stimulate indirect income. The way blogs are constructed is conducive to your site ranking well in the search algorithms. The engines, particularly Google, like the archive structure; the links allow their spiders to easily find and index everything. They also like to see new, original content being added regularly. Having a blog boosts your site's search positioning, thereby, increasing your exposure and your targeted traffic.

Your blog also adds value to your site by providing visitors with useful information and giving them a reason to return. That's why the content needs to be focused on education, rather than promotion. Your readers don't want to hear about your company - they want to know how you can solve their problems and what you can teach them concerning your area of expertise. If you sell cat toys, for example, your target audience is cat owners - so blog about issues that matter to cat owners. You might give tips on preventing fleas, share your thoughts about tracking pets with microchips, or simply divulge your own little trick for keeping your cat out of the fish bowl.

Blogging: The Big Picture

Blogs are positioned to stay around for quite a while, and their value to online marketers should continue to increase. States Kukral, "Every Internet entrepreneur ought to take advantage of this resource - blogging is a profitable proposition, regardless of your online goals. It's a very simple, very effective way to create a better E-Biz."

Rss In A Nutshell: What It Is And What It Does

You've probably heard the term "RSS feeds" before, but if you're like most people, it doesn't mean much to you. However, if you sell online, it's high time you discover this powerful marketing tool and what it can do for your E-Biz. According to Jeff Molander (http://www.ThoughtShapers.com), CEO of performance-marketing consulting practice, Molander and Associates, the potential of RSS as a promotional vehicle for online retailers is tremendous.

Really Simple Syndication -- That's what the letters stand for, but RSS is actually just a web feed format, or a means of transporting data across the web. It's often specified in XML (extensible markup language), which is simply the way the data inside a feed is structured. Says Molander, "Think of RSS as an internet plumbing system and XML as a standard way to transmit and receive data through those pipes."

You may already be using RSS feeds and not even realize it. If you get news updates through an information portal like Yahoo, Google, or BlogLines, those updates are powered by RSS behind the scenes. Like your plumbing system, it's in the background doing its job -- you aren't supposed to see it.

A Multi-tasking Medium Currently, RSS feeds are mostly used for syndicated data, like news or sports stats, made available by publishers. But e-marketers are starting to catch on to the possibilities this technology poses:

* With RSS feeds, you can alert your customers whenever you're running a special or adding a new product to your line-up. They can opt-in to receive updates and discussions about the products, in real time, so they're not relying on receiving numerous emails.

* You can attach almost any kind of information to an RSS feed -- podcasts, internet radio transmissions, blogs, etc. Some blogging services have made it as effortless as clicking a button to generate a URL that notifies users whenever you publish something new.

* For your customers who prefer to consume their news the old-fashioned way, you can use feed blitzes to turn your feeds into emails. They receive the same instant information access; it's just delivered in a different form.

Straight from the Source There are a number of companies that can help you publish feeds, and advertise through those channels. Right now, it's possible to monitor how many people are signing up for feeds, but it's hard to obtain any relevant statistics about them.

Here are some great resources for educating yourself about, and utilizing, feeds:

* http://www.SyndicationGumption.com helps you assess and understand RSS audiences.

* http://www.TechCrunch.com gives you the latest news on who's adopting RSS feeds and how they're using them to innovate.

* http://www.MarketingStudies.net provides marketers with tips for capitalizing on RSS, as well as the latest developments surrounding it.

Hitting the Mark -- Every Time You can offer your customers RSS feeds as an alternative to traditional emails. Molander explains, "It's a deliverability issue. We're in a time where distributing desired or valuable information on the web is actually somewhat difficult, specifically for advertisers." Unlike emails, which are often lost, or picked off by spam blockers, RSS brings news directly to your users. It's 100% opt-in, so you know your users are not only getting it, but that they really want it as well. Once they subscribe to your feed, literally nothing stands in the way of your delivering it to them.

Video: Internet Marketing - Search Engine Optimization - Google

Descripton tags

Most people don’t know how build Meta Description Tags and how many keywords should use. The main part of Search Engines search exactly meta description tags so you can’t ignore it.

The Meta elements have been the focus of a field of marketing research known as search engine optimization (SEO), where different methods are explored to provide a user's site with a higher ranking on search engines. In the mid to late 1990s, search engines were reliant on meta data to correctly classify a web page and webmasters quickly learned the commercial significance of having the right meta element, as it frequently led to a high ranking in the search engines — and thus, high traffic to the web site.

The Meta description tag is snipped of HTML code that belongs inside the section of a Web page. It usually is placed after the TITLE tag and before the Meta keywords tag.

The proper syntax for this HTML tag is:

When you write it, you should:
- write 150 characters (or less)
- use sentences
- be objective
- include keywords
- DON’T spam
- Easy on hype

Avoid using promotional language (the best, fantastic, very informative etc) – it can looks like a spam. You should not repeat the keywords again and again. One time is enough. Otherwise it will look like a spam.

If You Want To Make Money Online, You Need To Sell Something

You have infinite number of choices on what you can sell. Here are the main categories.

· Your own products and/or services.
· Someone else's products and/or services.

Research has proven that you will make more money with your own product or service. If you have one, great! Keep reading to learn how to promote your product.

For those that don't already have a product or service to sell, step 1 for you is Research. Start with an idea. Say you want to sell beauty care products. What you need is a wholesale supplier, preferably one that dropships to your customers so that you don't have to stock inventory. Or, you could work out a contract with a local beauty care center in your area to sell their products online for them. Many small retail stores do not have the time to get setup online. Your job then would be to sell them on your resell services. Just remember, keep it simple! Do not over think this, just start small and remember that you can always make changes along the way. The hardest part for most people in any new venture is just to get started! Remember, just do something everyday, even it is small, that grows your business.

One way to research for products is to brainstorm. List the different types of businesses or products that you have a personal interest in. The list could contain anything from carpentry to printing, fishing gear to picnic supplies. Whatever comes to mind, write it down! Next, you will need to research the viability of obtaining your products at the right price and being able to sell them at a profit. One great resource is to use the OneSource online product sourcing tool from World Wide Brands. Chris Malta has been an online marketer for many years. He offers a free eBook on his sight that tells all the ins and outs of reselling products online. I have used his services for years and have watched as he has evolved his business. He is legitimate and offers the most complete resource for finding drop ship and wholesale suppliers online. Take your list, visit World Wide Brands and look for suppliers. Make sure to research the companies by visiting their websites. Look for their physical location, although not really important if you are drop shipping, to see how far they are from you. Also, check their policy page and make sure you understand them for each company does things a little different.

Just to put all the misinformation to rest, you will have to invest some money and time into your online business. That is, if you want to be successful. There are sites that you can get into for free. These companies will give you a nice pretty site with tons of products, but you still have to promote it. Now, that being said, there are ways to make money online without investing a lot of money. The hardest and longest road to selling products online is producing your own. This takes a lot of time and a lot of money, usually. Less severe is taking the online resale approach as I described above by reselling products you buy at a wholesale price. The last option is the best and least costly for beginners. This approach is what is known as affiliate marketing. This is very similar to the above method of selling someone else's products for a profit, only affiliate marketing usually entails selling an information product like an ebook by referring others to a site where you will get credit for the sale if they buy the product and then collect a commission. Remember what I said about keeping it simple and starting out small?

The affiliate marketing method can be used for almost any product or service on your list. Visit most websites today and you can find a link on their main page that invites you to become an 'affiliate.' This is your opportunity to get into an online business with very little effort or money. Beware! Don't be drawn into the sites that charge a fee to become an affiliate, most are scams. To pick a legitimate affiliate program that you can use to make money, look for the presence of a legitimate business structure, quality products that are useful and priced well according to their value, and one that provides resources and tools to help with marketing. Following these standards of scrutiny will ensure that you have a quality product that is ready to sell.

Once you have found your product, whatever it is, there are many more steps to take before you will make money. The next step will be to look at setting up your business with a professional name and image and determining what else you will need to start your business.
